Thunder

A deep, throaty rumble in the night sky
That slowly fills with dark clouds
Brings a sense of foreboding
Nature’s afterthought to lightning
The sound a harbinger of promise or doom
But not to be feared
It’s only waves reaching your ears
The scary thoughts it conjures
Are all in your head
The reverberation in your chest
A mere echo, a resonance
More imaginary than real
Resist the urge to flee
Or hide under the covers
It’s ability to harm you, nil
It’s just thunder, my dear
