Cheesecake Shared

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?” (A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh)

Friends. The word itself is like a billboard that says midnight laughter, food coma, getting lost in strange alleyways, shoe shopping, conversations-so-good-coffee-gets-cold, and selfies. There is no one more blessed than a person who finds a friend/s who says yes to, “Another round of cheesecake cups?” even though they’re on a restricted calorie diet, or walks for miles on heels in search of Hugh Jackman’s coffee shop, or laughs at childhood stories shared over and over.

Who can know the value of 5 hours of uncensored conversations? Filters are for strangers; friends tell you about how they lost their temper on their drive to work, what they think of the other moms in their child's skating group, or how they messed up a job interview and nothing could be more interesting. Mundane, everyday stories take on a different meaning when shared with someone who cares. You can’t put a price tag on that.

To L and M:
May the world be kind to your gentle yet strong souls. May the years see your dreams at the palm of your hand.

I wish you love. Not the kind peddled in rom-coms but the Corinthians 13 kind. Not the feel good ones described in Nicholas Sparks novels but the Song of Songs kind. A love you could set free but would keep coming back every time.

I pray for your paths to be straight and lit, the wind not messing your hair, and less snow storms.

You are precious. You are important. You are loved. Happy birthday!

The best tasting cheesecake in the world is the one that’s shared. (Pictured is a salted caramel cheesecake from Eileen’s Special Cheesecake on Cleveland Place)

  1. Thank you, J. I will always treasure the laughter and tears. We laugh a lot that a crazy man had to turn around and ask us angrily what we were laughing at. I was so scared I pointed at you. Hahaha. - L.

    1. Hahaha. I didn’t know you pointed. That explains why he growled directly at me. Too funny!

    1. We did! Remember that tiny cafe we went to on our last day? The name of the place escapes me now.

But I was told there’s a shop in Osaka that makes good ones. Next time!
