Not Today

This is a poem I wrote for a friend a few years ago when she was at the height of her infatuation with this guy who treated her like a doll that he can wind up and ignore any time he wanted to. I’m glad she came to her senses, discovered her worth, and left that insanity behind.

Not Today

There was a time when a notification with your name on it would make me smile like a kid on Christmas morning
But not today

I was that girl who checked her phone for a missed call, a text, a wave
Every 2 minutes
But not today

A word from you and I moved
You said 3pm, I was there by 1
You asked where, I say anywhere
But not today

I asked the mailman everyday if a postcard came from you
But not today

A look, a smile, a touch, a hug
You had me with a song
But not today

Not today
Not anymore

    1. I hope so too. I have not been in touch with her in a while. 🤔
