Charity: A Selfie Opportunity?

Whatever happened to "don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing"?

Charitable giving these days have become tools that some people use to gain popularity and approval among their peers. Gone are the days when you can be certain that people give purely out of the abundance of their hearts. Now,  some humanitarian gestures are not complete without first taking a selfie and posting it on social media. It's one thing for people to find out about how big your heart is because you have given them something of yourself but it's quite another when you broadcast it to the world so you could show what a wonderful human being you are.

However, considering the great need around the world and how we could use more people who would give, whether from their excess or lack, sincere or not, having our Facebook newsfeeds filled with photos or posts from people touting how they're following in the footsteps of Mother Theresa may not be the most annoying thing.

If you would like to give consider giving to Feed New York, a Times Square Church initiative striving to provide food to struggling NYC families and neighborhoods.
