The Girl On The Train

Suspense, drama, intrigue, and twists. All these elements are in this book. It was an easy read and I finished it in one afternoon. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars out of 5 is because the twist wasn't that hard to figure out. From the victim's first encounter with the perpetrator, I knew that person was the murderer.

The main character in this book enjoyed constructing stories about the lives of the people she sees as she looked out of the train during her daily commute. People watching is also something that I enjoy doing. Every individual has a story and trying to figure out what that is based on the expressions on their faces, the way they move, speak, and even how they are dressed never gets old. So I could understand the draw that this had on this character, especially since her own story leaves a lot to be desired.

For those of you thinking that it's just another murder story, it's not. It exposes the horrors of alcoholism, the dangers of getting into a relationship with someone you barely know, the value of finding friends who would stick with you through thick and thin, and the incredible resilience of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming odds.

It's not award-winning material, but it would keep you entertained for one afternoon.
